Short-term Mission Trips

The first international mission trip I went on was to Honduras in 1989 with a baseball ministry called "Athletes In Action." To say the least that trip changed my life and world outlook forever! I believe every Christian‚ with few exceptions‚ should go on at least one international short-term (two-week) mission trip in their lifetime. The Lord digs deep into and richly blesses the hearts of those who step out in faith and take His message to other nations. A mission trip does several things in our lives‚ such as: gets us out of our comfort and self-reliance zone…builds our faith…broadens our perspective of our world…introduces us to different people and cultures…burdens our hearts for the lost‚ poor and hungry…helps us to learn personal evangelism…gives us a deeper appreciation of what God has blessed us with…etc.
Is your heart beginning to have an interest and "stirring" to go on a mission trip? If so‚ you are highly blessed of God! The following are some potential next steps:
- Prayer: Begin praying about where‚ when and with who God wants you to go on this trip.
- Accountability: Share with parents‚ close friends‚ Pastors‚ etc.‚ that you are interested in going on a mission trip.
- Plan: Begin your plans of who to contact‚ a potential time to go‚ money needed to be raised‚ whom to seek financial help from‚ etc. Put your potential plans and ideas on paper to discuss with others.
- Research: Contact your Pastor‚ other local churches‚ your denomination's missions headquarters in your state and nationally‚ as well as para-church ministries that focus on taking short-term mission teams.
